Tmall reveals its top three outdoor brands for sales

According to data from Alibaba e-commerce platform Tmall, its top three outdoor brands in terms of sales between 2021 and 2023 were Camel Active, The North Face and Columbia.

Tmall focuses on business-to-consumer retailing and often plays a key role in international brands’ China-based commercial strategies, especially when they first enter the market.

Launched in 2008, the site initially formed part of consumer-to-consumer sister site Taobao and was previously called Taobao Mall, before it was officially spun out as a separate business entity in 2011.

The number of searches for the term “outdoor” on Tmall notably skyrocketed by 659% over the same period, which included the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, reports went on to say.

China aims for outdoor sports revenues, not only those related to performance wear, to reach at least ¥3 trillion by 2025, the equivalent of roughly $435 billion today.
