Colourizd and Archroma announce collaboration

Colourizd, a developer of eco-friendlier colouration processes based between Hong Kong and the US, has revealed plans to work with Swiss specialty chemicals company Archroma to find new ways to combine the latter’s pigments with the former’s QuantumColour yarn-colouring technology.

QuantumColour injects pigments and binders into yarns directly and uses only 0.95 litres of water per kilogram of coloured yarn, generating zero effluent.

Colourizd says this effectively means 98% less water consumption, zero discharge of wastewater and harmful chemicals, a 73% lower carbon footprint and 50% less energy usage for fabric mills and their brand partners. It hopes its collaboration with Archroma will facilitate increased adoption of more sustainable colouration, primarily at mill level.

“As the preferred supplier of pigment colouration solutions for QuantumColour, we are proud to join Colourizd in challenging industry conventions,” commented printing market segment director at Archroma Textile Effects, Joaquin Femat.

Colourizd, which counts Kontoor-owned brands Lee and Wrangler among its customers, is currently exhibiting its new QuantumColour Denim Machine at textile and garment technology trade show ITMA in Milan (booth H3-A201M), last held in Barcelona in 2019. The system emulates and reproduces indigo-dyed fabrics, without reliance on traditional methods, it said.
