First fabrics from Roica-Lenzing fibre combo on show at Performance Days

Stretch yarn developer Roica by Asahi Kasei and cellulosic fibre producer Lenzing have announced that they will work together to introduce “a new concept of sustainable and circular-driven textiles”.

This will consist of using Roica’s V550 degradable stretch yarn in combination with Tencel fibres from Lenzing to make fabrics that the two companies say will enhance brands’ sustainability efforts.

Their claim is that the fabrics resulting from this partnership will offer high levels of performance and aesthetics, but will also offer good end-of-life solutions too.

While V550 has certification under ISO 14855-1 to degrade partially into CO2 and water, Tencel fibres have a high recycling potential.

Fabric producers are already working with the V550-Tencel combination and Lenzing and Roica are planning to present their fabrics at industry events in the coming months.

This will begin at Performance Days in Munich (March 20-21), where Italian textile manufacturer Brugnoli will show a new range of fabrics called Yogatime, constructed using the two fibres.
