Return to wooden skis: Atomic releases Impact Statement
Austria-based ski brand Atomic has released its Impact Statement 2025, marking the third annual report outlining the brand’s climate strategy, decarbonisation progress and broader sustainability initiatives.
Among the achievements from 2025 it noted a 90% reduction in Scope 2 emissions by transitioning its Bulgarian production site to 100% renewable electricity.
Since 2014, Atomic’s headquarters in Altenmarkt, Austria have been powered by 100% renewable energy, sourced predominantly from local hydroelectric schemes.
By completing LCAs for every product category, Atomic has a clearer understanding of its material impacts. In 2025, it achieved a 24% reduction in the new Maverick skis collection by using more wood, less fiberglass, less Titanal and less resin.
Wolfgang Mayrhofer, president of Atomic, said: “As passionate skiers who call the mountains home, we’re used to seeing the landscape change season by season. But warmer winters, a rising snowline, and more frequent extremes are now constant reminders of the accelerating impact of the climate crisis, a crisis that is reshaping the natural world and the future of our sport. Our direction remains clear: drastically reduce emissions, stay transparent, and design high-performance products with a lower footprint.”
Atomic leads the Ski Industry Climate Summit, a cross-sector platform for climate collaboration launched by the brand in 2023 and strengths its advocacy efforts as a supporter of Protect Our Winters Europe.
