Winter sports industry joins Race to Zero
The Winter Sports Sustainability Network (WSN), managed by Peak 63 and the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI), has officially joined the UN Race to Zero Campaign.
In 2024, the Winter Sports Industry Climate Pact was launched to address climate change and help its members achieve a net-zero carbon emissions future.
A key commitment was to improve climate efforts by joining the UN Race to Zero Campaign, which aligns and validates climate targets through internationally verified climate initiatives.
Signatories have pledged to focus efforts on the required greenhouse gas emission reductions, to keep global warming to 1.5°C; guide the industry forward in collaborative action, where the more ‘climate advanced’ companies support and guide their less advanced peers; advocate for progressive climate policy; and address climate change as a top management priority.
The brands that have joined the UN Race to Zero Campaign are: 1000skis, Atomic, Blizzard-Tecnica, Burton, Dalbello, Decathlon, Dynastar, Elan, International Biathlon Union, Jones Snowboard, K2, Kästle, Lange, Line, Look, Madshus, Marker, Nordica, OneWay, Ride, Rossignol, Salomon, Stöckli, The Nidecker Group and Völkl.
Jérôme Pero, secretary general of FESI, said: “The winter sports industry cannot afford to stand by as climate change threatens its future. By joining the UN Race to Zero, our industry is not just committing to climate targets, it is leading by example, proving that sustainable business and climate action go hand in hand.”
FESI represents the interests of approximately 1,800 sporting goods manufacturers (85% of the European market) through its National Sporting Goods Industry Federations and its directly affiliated member companies. In total, the European Sporting Goods Industry employs over 700,000 EU citizens and has an annual turnover of some EUR 81 billion.
