Collaboration in biobased performance knit
At Performance Days, on today in Munich, Italian mill Brugnoli has presented a new circular knit fabric that can boast 89% biobased content and was developed in collaboration with nylon producer Fulgar and The Lycra Company. The reference, called BR4/E1, is made using Brugnoli’s patented Br4 technology, a production process engineered for stretch polyamide fabrics that reduces water end energy consumption by 20% in the dyeing and finishing phases compared to conventional processes. It is made from Fulgar’s EVO yarn, a 100% biobased nylon derived from castor oil and industrial corn. The elastane yarn chosen was the new Lycra EcoMade, whose composition includes approximately 70% renewable industrial corn. These two yarns offer significantly lower environmental impacts, backed by LCA data. A fitness top and leggings have been developed using the new fabric and is on show at Brugnoli’s booth.

The mill based in Busto Arsizio, north west of Milan, said it had been developing performance fabrics from renewable resources since 2015, when sustainability was still in its early stages in performance textiles.
