ALLIED Feather + Down adds to traceability platform

Down supplier Allied Feather + Down first launched TrackMyDown, a consumer-facing traceability platform, back in the 2010s. It was created to address consumer concerns about down provenance but quickly became a platform for engaging and educating consumers on responsibly sourced down.

The company is now adding environmental impact data to the platform. It draws on an audit conducted by Green Threads DPP and based on real world conditions, specifically the company’s processing centre in Hangzhou, China. TrackMyDown can now provide cradle-to-gate carbon footprint data tied directly to individual down lots.

The audit found that Allied’s processing methods generate significantly less carbon emissions (-85%) compared to industry averages (around 3.2 kg CO2e per kg as found in online databases such as Ecoinvent). This is due to a number of factors including renewable energy (solar panels), water recycling and lower processing temperatures, a spokesperson told Sportstextiles.

Adding carbon footprint data to TrackMyDown also makes Allied ESPR and DPP-ready.
