Collaboration leads to ground-breaking circular down jacket
Anta-owned Swedish outdoor brand Peak Performance is introducing a new R&D Helium Loop Anorak which combines a series of advanced, sustainable and responsible materials and resources. The down jacket is the result of a collaboration between Allied Feather + Down, NetPlus, Pertex and Resortecs and it addresses the critical issue of disassembly to scale up the recycling of used clothing.

Each partner brought to the table its most advanced products. The jacket is made from Allied’s 800-fill power down. In addition to offering high thermal insulation, natural down is renewable, recyclable many times, and biodegradable. NetPlus recycles fishing net waste, collected before it pollutes the ocean, into 100% post-consumer recycled nylon yarns. These were woven by Pertex into the jacket’s shell and lining fabrics. Resortecs, the maker of a novel sewing thread that dissolves under heat, supplied its Smart Stitch, which will streamline disassembly when the jacket reaches the end of its useful cycle. Resortec’s Smart Disassembly solution will release the down plumes and textiles, which can then be individually recycled.

Circularity starts with materials and supplies, noted Allied’s creative director Matthew Betcher:
“The reality is that garments need to be designed for circularity before any sense of recyclability can even start to be possible. That is why we are excited to bring our areas of expertise as innovative ingredient brands to Peak Performance to build, from the very beginning, a truly circular product.”
