Niber introduces Nuspun

Niber Technologies officially launched its performance laminates brand under the name Nuspun at Performance Days this week. The ultra breathable nonwoven membrane is made through electrospinning, a method that allows the company to tune its performances for superior breathability or higher protection against the wind and rain.

The Singapore-based company, which recently opened an office in Munich, specialises in electrospinning and has been working on its fully PFAS-free membranes for several years. “We started Niber with the belief that electrospinning could do more for performance materials than anyone had proven yet. When we began, the technology was still niche in textiles, and scaling it was almost an uncharted territory for the whole industry. For years, we proved it quietly as an OEM manufacturer, supplying membranes without brands or consumers ever knowing our name was behind them. NUSPUN is us stepping out of that role, so brands and consumers can finally see and trust exactly what’s inside their apparel,” said Jaemin Park, co-founder of NIber Technologies.

Niber has developed a branded platform addressing three use cases. Nuspun Arcus is engineered for rugged conditions with a waterproofness of 10,000 mmH2O. Ventus is tuned to provide high breathability along with wind protection for activities such as skiing and trail running. Stratos focuses on high air flow for cycling, running and high-intensity sports where breathability is favoured over weather protection. All Nuspun laminates have a breathability rate of under 6 Ret. The ultra light non-woven structure of the membranes makes them very packable and particularly silent.

“Niber’s technology puts Nuspun in the active comfort segment,” Tomas Vucurevic, head of Braind, an ingredient brand consultancy, told Sportstextiles. “It is safe to say that consumers have been overprotected these past decades, their closets are full of clothes, and they now know better what they need. They check the weather before going out and when conditions allow, they will be better served by a Nuspun laminate. Furthermore, the phasing out of PFAS has reshuffled the market. Nuspun membranes address these new market conditions.”
