Brazilian textile industry voices concern to government

11/06/2014

At a meeting with members of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Brazilian textile association Abit voiced concerns over the industry’s lack of competitiveness due to high taxes, the difficulty of keeping business within Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela) and the renewal of Reintegra – an export incentive programme that expired at the end of last year.

“We mentioned our issues and the minister seemed to be sensitive to it,” said Rafael Cervone, president of Abit.

Minister Mauro Borges praised Abit for its studies, and said the relationship between the textile industry and its workers shows a maturity seen in few sectors.

Organised by the Parliamentary Front and Abit, the meeting was attended by members of the Textile and Garment Parliamentary Front, businessmen and representatives of employers and workers organisations.
