He succeeds Giulio Bonazzi, CEO of Aquafil, who will remain on the board.
Mr Meierkord said: “The current situation of the man-made fibres industry, in Europe and also globally, is characterised by many uncertainties. However, our European industry – the second largest in the world – has many strengths. Not only is it the most innovative and the most sustainable worldwide, but it also manufactures high quality and unique speciality products, which provide the base for a bright future.
“CIRFS will continue to support and to help further develop the industry, building on its strengths.”
