Luminescence, a straw-based fibre and novel PET products among FENC’s TITAS highlights
Luminescence fabrics, a straw-based fibre and cooling filaments were among highlights of the Taipei-based TITAS textile show, with textile manufacturer Far Eastern New Century Corporation (FENC) showing its latest developments as four 'pillars': smart technologies, green sustainability, healthy living and athleisure
The Taiwanese firm, a supplier to brands including Nike and Adidas, spends a quarter of its income on research and development.
TopLumins absorbs ambient light to charge, then fluoresces under low light in dark conditions; it is highly durable and rechargeable for repeated use.
FERMI 1.0 (Far Eastern R&D Manmade Intelligence) is based on novel coating of non-metallic conductive polymers and is highly wash durable. The pair “provide platforms for the development of textiles suitable for night time training and safety, a new extra dimension of design possibilities”, said FENC.
For filaments, FENC debuted an ambient-pressure cationic-dyeable filament, suitable for use with heat-sensitive materials such as cotton, wool, rayon and nylon, and allowing for the production of two-tone fabric.
It offered polyester and nylon 6.6 solution-dyed yarns, which are water and carbon footprint-reducing products.
TopAgro is its discarded straw recycled fibre, made by sintering waste straw into inorganic material, and adding it into recycled PET fibre. It has been awarded the Taiwan Green Mark.
FENC partnered with 3M to develop a polyester filament called TOPDRY, a durable hydrophobic PET yarn which does not contain PFOS, PFOA or other fluorine derivatives.
SUNEX is a heat-generating antistatic filament that can generate up to 5°C of heat with superior antistatic function.
Anti-NIR radiative insulating cool yarn is a new-generation of material which is highly reflective against near-infrared solar radiation, allowing the wearer to stay cooler for longer.
Eagelon is an antibacterial fibre, made using a composite antibacterial additive formula, which has passed US FDA, European EFSA and Japanese SIAA tests for skin irritation and allergy.
Far Eastern Fibertech (FEFC) showcased a cool-feel nylon 6.6 fibre; the hydrophilicity of the filament has been improved to achieve a cool hand.
We will present all the innovations from TITAS in the upcoming edition of WSA.
