BCI to train cotton farmers in Pakistan

08/09/2016
Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), the Geneva-based non-profit organisation that works to promote greater sustainability in cotton production around the world, is to offer training in sustainable practices to nearly 200,000 cotton farmers in Pakistan.

The training will take place during the 2017 cotton season and will focus particularly on the Sindh and Punjab provinces of the country. Once the farmers have been trained they will be issued a license allowing them to sell their raw cotton as Better Cotton.

BCI will be helped in this endeavour by the Australian Government and Cotton Australia, who will share best practices, skills and experience in order to improve the standards of global cotton production and increase the world’s sustainable cotton supply.

Cotton Australia says this marks the first time a non-European government has contributed to BCI. It says this collaboration is a good example of global partners coming together to tackle a complex challenge, the results of which will benefit all parties.
