New method from Lenzing for measuring softness

Botanic cellulose fibre manufacturer Lenzing has partnered with German testing equipment supplier Emtec Electronuic to develop a new method for measuring softness in textiles.

“In the search for existing measuring methods to test softness, we examined related industries and found an interesting instrument which appeared suitable to measure the softness of textiles,” explained Mohammad Abu Rous, who led the testing at Lenzing Research.

The device in question is typically used in the paper towel industry, for which Emtec provides equipment. It is used to measure the softness of different products in this sector. 

Lenzing tested it on more than 100 fabrics to check its effectiveness of textiles. Lenzing then approached Emtec to carry out further tests.
