Spinnova’s pilot factory prepares for production

03/01/2019
Finnish bio-yarn producer Spinnova announced in December that it had successfully completed the building of its new pilot factory line in Jyväskylä, Finland.

It described the pilot phase of its development as an “important step” towards large volume commercial production of its cellulosic fibre.

Building of the industrial scale pilot line took place in the autumn and was completed in mid-December. Spinnova expects ramping up of the line to take place during the first quarter of 2019. Its maximum capacity will be 100-400 tonnes per year.

Making the announcement, Spinnova CEO Janne Poranen said: “I couldn’t be prouder of our team and contractors for successfully carrying out this massive project so fast. This is a greenfield factory in every way imaginable, and yet with a genius idea, careful planning and meticulous implementation, everything has gone as planned.”

The company is looking for commercial partners to run product development trials in 2019 once there is enough fibre for testing on real fabrics and for creating prototype products.

“Once Spinnova has proof of concept in the pilot factory, the technology will be multipliable and licensable,” it added.
