Spinnova prepares to scale up fibre production
Finnish bio-yarn producer Spinnova has announced it plans to start production at its pilot factory in Central Finland by the end of 2018.

The company added that its product development has now reached a phase where its cellulose fibre and the required production method can be applied on an industrial scale. It now aims to create a “scalable technology concept” for fibre production, which could include joint ventures and licensing.

Janne Poranen (pictured), Spinnova CEO, said: “We have made excellent progress with our R&D. Spinnova fibre’s qualities are already on an excellent level for several end products. The speed of growth-enabling developments, such as technology solutions, partnerships and production space, has also exceeded our expectations.”

Spinnova is developing textiles made using its fibre in cooperation with a number of partners and raw material suppliers. Its first partner was confirmed at the end of 2017, textile and clothing designer Marimekko.

Spinnova said several other partners, all globally known retail brands, have already committed to joint product development.
