Spinnova recruits textile professor in consultancy role
Finnish bio-yarn producer Spinnova will call on the knowledge and experience of a textile professor from the University of Borås in Sweden as its seeks to develop its cellulosic fibre for commercial applications.

Its new collaborator is Nawar Kadi (pictured right), professor of textile technology at the Swedish university. His work there focuses on textile recycling, fibre, yarn and textile structures, and composites.

Dr Kadi has agreed to assists Spinnova’s product development as a private consulting expert. This will include training and consulting on various topics related to the development of its fibre. He will continue in his position at the University of Borås.

“The kind of technical and industrial textile expertise that we need in commercialising our fibre is not easy to find in Europe,” said Spinnova CEO Janne Poranen. “With Kadi we found a highly professional expert in his field, one who can really help us speed up bringing our first products to the market.”

For his part, Dr Kadi described working with Spinnova as a “tremendous opportunity”. He added: “This eco-friendly fibre will cause a stir in the textile market.”

Spinnova has said it will focus on end product development with brand partners this year. This comes after it completed building of its industrial scale pilot production line in Finland. 

Production will be ramped up in the first quarter of 2019, allowing enough fibre to be produced to carry out customer trials. It has invested in fibre processing and finishing technology for use in these trials.
