Biobased Dyneema strengthened by global exclusives

Royal DSM, the Netherlands-based company behind Dyneema fibre (completely biobased since October 1, 2020), recently announced its exclusive partnership with seven “premium manufacturing partners” to boost the adoption of Dyneema.

DSM already enjoys a “long and successful” relationship with each of the mills, a press release said. The group includes Hwa Sung International (South Korea); IBQ Fabrics (Spain); Naveena Denim (Pakistan), Feinjersey Group (Austria); VDS Weaving (Belgium); Fuchshuber Techno-Tex (Germany); Gayon New Materials (China).

Global business director for consumer and professional protection at DSM, Marcio Manique, commented: “We are confident that our partnerships will ensure the continuous growth of our Dyneema offerings for various end-use markets worldwide and look forward to exploring additional opportunities, including the introduction of more sustainable alternatives with biobased Dyneema fibre.”

Described by DSM as “the world’s strongest fabric”, biobased Dyneema provides the “exact” same performance as the conventional version of the fibre, but with a carbon footprint that is “90% lower” than generic high modulus polyethylene (HMPE).

Dyneema is available as composites, knits, denim, woven and hybrid fabrics for composite reinforcements, at weights up to 45% lighter than more traditional materials such as nylon, polyester and aramid.
