Lenzing bolsters sustainable chemicals commitment
Austrian fibre producer Lenzing, the manufacturer of wood-based fibres such as Tencel and Ecovero, has joined the Together for Sustainability alliance of chemical companies, headquartered in Brussels.

By adding its weight behind the project, which seeks to evaluate and progress sustainability practices along global chemicals-sector supply chains, Lenzing has signalled its “clear commitment” to improving both its own environmental footprint and that of the wider textile industry, commented the firm’s chief commercial officer, Robert van de Kerkhof.

“I am very proud to welcome Lenzing to the Together for Sustainability family, bringing our membership to 37 companies,” stated the initiative’s president, Bertrand Conquéret. “Given the regulatory landscape, climate challenges and market conditions, the need for sustainable businesses only intensifies."

Lenzing reported a year-on-year revenue increase of 25% for the first quarter and published its first online sustainability report in the spring. It also opened a new lyocell plant with capacity for 100,000 tonnes annually in Thailand in March.
