Stanbee’s recycled and recyclable step forward
Footwear components manufacturer Stanbee, headquartered in New Jersey, has launched “fully recyclable” heel counters and box toes made from a minimum of 85% recycled plastic bottles.
Sold under the name Nitro Force, the articles are manufactured at the company’s facilities in Vietnam and Thailand using a patent-pending process that results in a lightweight material.
“This is a huge step forward in sustainability and performance,” said chief executive, Michael Berkson, describing how similar products Nitro Flex, Nitro Sport and Nitro Vulc will also be introduced in the coming months. “With Nitro Force, we’re acting as a conduit for the global waste stream – and we’re not producing a single ounce of waste. This is our most sustainable product yet.”
If customers provide computer-aided design (CAD)-ready AutoCAD DXF data files, Stanbee will also cut the net parts and use leftover material to create additional Nitro products as part of its in-house Zero Waste initiative, Mr Berkson added.
Stanbee’s clients include Nike, Reebok, Under Armour, Jordan Brand, Converse, Keen, Allbirds and Sketchers.
