Treksta developing ‘Korean-style’ bobsled shoes
As part of its new deal to supply the Korean Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (KBSF) with training and competition footwear in the capacity of official sponsor, local outdoor brand Treksta will now develop “Korean-style” shoes exclusively for KBSF athletes.
The footwear, a continuation of Treksta’s earlier government-sponsored work to help improve athletes' start by designing shoes with better ice grip and rebound elasticity, will therefore be based on “the foot and body shape of Korean athletes”, Seoul-based media said.
Reports framed the agreement, signed mid-January, as part of a wider plan to advance the performance of the nation’s winter sports teams. South Korea placed fourteenth at last year’s Winter Olympics, winning nine medals in total: two gold, five silver and two bronze.
Although the country entered eight male and one female athlete in bobsleigh, plus two men and one woman in skeleton, none managed to break into the competition's top ten.
