Rudolf Group takes home VCI Responsible Care award
Bavaria-based chemicals group Rudolf has been awarded top prize in this year’s Responsible Care Federation Competition in the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) category.
Organised by the German Chemical Industry Association, known as VCI, the competition acknowledges progress made by businesses that subscribe to its Responsible Care initiative.
Rudolf was singled out for its TerraCool system, which harnesses near-surface geothermal energy in support of a “natural” industrial cooling effect. Temperatures are kept at approximately 10 degrees Celsius, ten metres below ground level.
The jury praised the self-contained refrigeration technology for its efficiency and carbon neutrality. It consumes only 0.1% of the electricity required by conventional cooling systems, the group said, and will be used to cool chemical production processes at its headquarters.
