Ambercycle expands network in China

Los Angeles-based textile tech company Ambercycle is growing its network of industrial partners for its textile-to-textile polyester recycling process.

It has announced a strategic partnership with Benma to develop cycora staple fibre. The Hangzhou-based company produces a so-called “low carbon” polyester and has a production capacity of 180,000 tonnes yearly. Benma is also a direct investor in Ambercycle.

“Partnering with Benma allows us to expand cycora’s potential by diversifying its applications into staple fibres,” commented Shay Sethi, Ambercycle co-founder and CEO.

Earlier this week, Ambercycle announced another partnership with Chinese textile conglomerate Shenghong Holding Group, and specifically its rPET division, Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Material. The two companies have been working together for a year now on developing a filament yarn using the American start-up’s chips.

Shenghong operates two production facilities in the eastern coastal province of Jiangsu and its production capacity for bottle-to-fibre polyester is around 600,000 tonnes per year.
