Asahi Kasei ups production runs, launches fabrics

Japanese fibre manufacturer Asahi Kasei is expanding the production of its Cupro fibre from 15,000 to 16,500 tons per year and is upping production of its Roica fabric in Thailand by 40%.

New versions of the sportswear and lingerie-focused fabrics will be on display at the Premiere Vision Textile show in Paris (September 12 to 14).

Asahi Kasei is launching three fresh versions of Cupro - its cotton linter (the downy fibre that enfolds cotton seeds) product. Cupro FF has a micro-fine quality with extra softness, Cupro DF is a matte filament thread and the third update uses a staple spun production and offers an everyday, luxury touch that is natural in feel with low pill lustre.

The new Roica ECO-SMART is made with more  than 50% pre-production industrial waste and ROICA Colour Perfect is a stretch yarn that can be dyed to match most fibres including, wool, silk, polyamide and for the first time all cellulosic including cotton, viscose, Tencel, Modal and Cupro. The group has partnered chemical group ERCA to advise to dye houses and manufacturers on the colouring process.
