Adidas Speedfactory dream to become reality in 2016

Adidas has confirmed its ‘Speedfactory’ – operated mainly by robots – will be ready to go into production as early as next year.

Based in Ansbach near its Bavarian headquarters, the factory will minimally staffed, with machines making shoes with knitted uppers and Boost soles.

Both Adidas and Nike have been talking of manufacturing revolutions over the past few years, suggesting more knitted designs will reduce reliance on Asian factories.

In October Adidas announced a partnership with German factory Manz to produce automated production technology for the Speedfactory initiative.
