Adidas names Hainer successor and partners Virgin for Galactic collection
Adidas has named the successor to long-standing CEO Herbert Hainer as Kasper Rorsted, who will take up the role at the end of September.
Mr Rorsted has been CEO of German DAX company Henkel since 2008 and will join the board in August to “ensure a smooth transition”.
The German group has also signed up to design the clothing on Virgin Galactic’s commercial spaceflight operations.
Its Y-3 collection is a collaboration with Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, who will design flight-suits for astronauts and pilots, maintenance teams and hosting staff.
Adam Wells, head of design at Virgin Galactic, said: “Our evolution into a fully-functioning spaceline presents unprecedented opportunities to create original designs in support of our unique customer experience. Together with the incredibly talented team at Y-3, we will explore the potential to create innovative apparel and accessories – both for our staff and for our pioneering customers – that is appropriately functional and fit-for-purpose, is thoughtfully and elegantly crafted, and is fulfilling and fun to wear and use.”
