Under Armour takes control of Spanish distribution

19/07/2016
Sportswear manufacturer Under Armour has opened an office in Barcelona, Spain as part of a move to assume responsibility for distribution of its products in the country. The US brand had previously outsourced its distribution in Spain to Alnisa Sports.

Alnisa has been responsible for distribution of Under Armour’s products since 2006 but the agreement between the companies will not be renewed when it expires on December 31 2016. Alnisa has already announced its plans to enter liquidation as it will no longer be working with any brands.

Under Armour’s Barcelona base will have a ten-man team in charge of distribution to the Spanish market. The team will be led by Jens Ulbrich, who spent seven years as Reebok’s marketing director for Spain and Portugal. He has also served in a similar capacity at adidas.

Sources close to Under Armour say that the company is targeting sales of €12 million in the first year of this venture. This would be followed by annual growth of 25% over the following three years, resulting in Spanish sales of approximately €20 million by 2019.
