Unifi uses power of sport to educate public on recycling

The initiative includes National Basketball Association (NBA) teams the Dallas Mavericks and the Portland Trail Blazers; and National Hockey League (NHL) outfits the Boston Bruins, the Detroit Red Wings, the Anaheim Ducks, the Minnesota Wild and the New Jersey Devils.
It forms part of Unifi’s national Repreve ‘TurnItGreen’ tour, which sees the company travel around the US with an interactive trailer to educate the public on the importance of recycling. It also allows it to showcase the products made from its Repreve filament yarn, which is made from recycled materials, including post-consumer use plastic bottles.
The partner sports franchises will display recycling messages at their stadiums, explaining to fans how easy it is for them to have a positive impact on the environment.
"Only 32% of plastic bottles are recycled in the United States, which is a statistic Unifi is working diligently to change," explained Jay Hertwig, vice president of global brand sales, marketing and product development for Unifi. "Through the TurnItGreen tour, we aim to rally people's passion for sports, and help spread that passion toward taking better care of our environment.”
