Pensole Academy to feature in online show

06/07/2017
The Pensole Footwear Design Academy will play a starring role in a new online show on YouTube called ‘Lace Up: The Ultimate Sneaker Challenge’.

It will involve 12 aspiring designers, who will compete in weekly challenges to design, develop and create the next generation of sneakers. Each week, they will be split into four teams and will present a new sneaker inspired by a guest “sneakerhead” (someone with a passion for sneakers). The guests will include model Ashley Graham, singer/rapper Fetty Wap and Stan Smith, after whom the famous Adidas tennis shoe is named.

A panel of experts, which will include the guest “sneakerhead” and Pensole founder D’Wayne Edwards, will select the winner each week.

The competition will take place at Pensole’s headquarters in Portland, Oregon, and the overall winner will get the opportunity to work on product creation at Adidas.

“I am humbled that YouTube found an interest in Pensole’s mission of providing free education and opportunities to aspiring designers,” said Mr Edwards. “This show will help us reach those future students around the world that never knew jobs like this existed, by revealing the process of how sneakers are created.”

“Sneaker culture is already huge on YouTube, and this new series will cater directly to that audience,” added Susanne Daniels. YouTube’s global head of original content.

The show will make its debut in Autumn 2017 on YouTube Red, a paid subscription service available in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea.
