Under Armour targets muscle stability with new collection
Sports brand Under Armour has unveiled a range of training apparel that features a new taping technology designed to support and guide the wearer’s muscles during exercise.

The Perpetual Powerprint collection features a range of products for men and women, including leggings, training tops and bottoms, and sports bras.

Under Armour has explained that all training requires some degree of stability, but says that athletes often overlook this important aspect and carry out different exercises “without firing the correct muscles”.

Having recognised this problem, Under Armour’s designers consulted with its Athlete Performance team at the company’s innovation centre in Portland. Here, the athletes carried out a series of training workouts to pinpoint the areas of the body where support and guidance are most needed.

"It was imperative that our designers understood which muscle groups are in need of extra support,” said Paul Winsper, vice president of athlete performance at Under Armour. “We teamed up and went through the motions of exercises where stability is often compromised."

The designers then placed the Powerprint tape in the required areas. It is designed to increase muscle awareness and encourage dynamic flex, which Under Armour has explained is “the sensation that muscle groups are moving efficiently as one”.

The UA Perpetual Powerprint collection is made using Under Armour’s HeatGear fabric, which is sweat wicking, quick drying and allows for greater breathability.
