Italian machinery manufacturers end 2018 on a negative note

11/02/2019
The number of orders secured by Italian textile machinery manufacturers in the fourth quarter of 2018 fell compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT).

Domestic orders dropped 12% and there was a 16% decrease in orders from overseas.

Discussing the results, ACIMIT president Alessandro Zucchi said: “The evolution of the domestic market reflects an overall sense of uncertainty that has accompanied the new national budget legislation, not to mention the comparison with a record fourth quarter for 2017.”

He added that “geopolitical situations” are impacting the sales of Italian machinery manufacturers in Turkey, Iran and China, all of which are important markets for this sector.

The forecast for 2019 is not much better either, according to Mr Zucchi. He said the sector is placing its trust in the ITMA exhibition, which will take place in Barcelona in June, to stimulate a revival.
