UK company launches plastic-free glitter

Ronald Britton was inspired to search for a ‘friendly’ alternative after conversations with “forward thinking” cosmetics companies, and has spent years working on the formula.
Bioglitter is certified OK Biodegradable WATER by TÜV, which means biodegrades in a natural, freshwater environment. Microbes dissolve the biodegradable content turning it into carbon dioxide, water and biomass. It is also microplastic free, based on ECHA microplastic guidelines.
It is suitable for decorative purposes in clothing and footwear, and the company is already working with a number of brands. Deco Bioglitter can be flatbed screen, rotary screen and drop glitter printed on to fabric.
Ronald Britton's commercial director, Stephen Cotton, said: ““The issue of plastic waste and microplastics is something we’ve been working towards tackling in glitter for the best part of a decade.
“Our first step on the Bioglitter journey was the launch of our original Bioglitter product back in 2014, now known as Cosmetic Bioglitter Sparkle.
“Bioglitter Sparkle remains our brightest Bioglitter product and has been independently tested to prove that biodegradation is high in the natural environment. Cosmetic Bioglitter Pure takes that one step further and offers the market a new glitter effect that is completely plastic free.”
