Puma’s new cushioning features in augmented reality shoe
05/04/2019
LQD CELL is an extension of the company’s existing CELL cushioning, which is made up of a series of hexagonal cells. The upgrade’s enhanced performance is due to the use of smaller cells and to the incorporation of a softer, more resilient material, Puma has said. Upon impact with the ground, the hexagonal cells compress and work together with proprietary energy-return foam, PROFOAM, to ensure a more comfortable step.
The cushioning is said to be suitable for use across a wide range of footwear categories, including streetwear and high performance training shoes.
The first product to feature the technology is Puma’s new LQD CELL Origin AR shoe. The silhouette of this model is covered in a geometric pattern made up of QR codes. An accompanying smart phone application allows customers to scan the shoe and add effects to pictures and videos of it. They can also play interactive games.
