Arc’teryx stages Shangri-La show at 3,000 metres

Canada-based outdoor brand Arc’teryx, owned by China’s Anta Sports via its Amer Sports subsidiary, has held a fashion show at an elevation of around 3,000 metres in Xiaojiezi village, part of the Yunnanese city of Shangri-La.

The event, staged on a Songtsam hotel group property, is the latest in a series of efforts to come of an ongoing, five-year ‘outdoor experience’ partnership between Arc’teryx and the hotelier, which specialises in luxury wellness retreats. Notable highlights from their collaboration thus far include the opening of a co-branded destination store inside the Songtsam Linka Shangri-La hotel, where the catwalk show was held.

Bold, brightly hued technical outdoor gear and climbing equipment offered a stark contrast to the rugged natural environment. Several models wore heavily beaded and printed articles in a nod to the strong influence of Tibetan culture on the local area, also home to the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, the largest of its kind in Yunnan.

Known as Zhongdian county prior to its official renaming in 2001, Shangri-La became a county-level city in 2014. Today, it is the capital of China’s Dêqên Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, not far from Tibet.

Arc’teryx previously hosted a pop-up exhibition dedicated to “sustainable art” at UCCA in Beijing last year.
