China: textile, apparel exports down 19% last month
The dollar value of Chinese textile and apparel exports declined by 18.5% year on year over January-February, according to figures released by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles (CCCT).
Textile exports were valued at $19.16 billion, representing a year-on-year decrease of 22.4%, while clothing exports accounted for $21.68 billion, a decline of 14.7%. Taken together, the total value was $40.84 billion.
CCCT, established in Beijing in 1988 as part of the national commerce ministry, attributed the drop-off to factors including the relatively high value of goods exported during the comparative period last year, as well as the reduced volume of overseas orders placed with China-based suppliers between January and February.
