Ventile backs Egyptian biodynamic cotton
Zurich-based technical textile developer Ventile has formed a joint venture with the Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA) to support the latter's 2,380 membership in making the transition to organic and biodynamically cultivated cotton.
Ventile said its ongoing support would enable the non-profit to assist more farmers in implementing soil-healthy regenerative farming methods, free from harmful artificial inputs and genetically modified organisms or GMOs. EBDA co-executive director Justus Harm added that the association would subsequently be able to direct more investment towards capacity building and thereby help “improve [the] livelihoods and well-being of many more farmers and their communities in Egypt”.
On behalf of Ventile, its brand director, Daniel Odermatt, described the degree of farm-level visibility and engagement afforded by the collaboration with EBDA as “a vital step forward [towards] achieving our goal of creating a traceable and transparent supply chain”.
Originally established in the UK in 1943, Ventile celebrates its eightieth anniversary this year. The company’s cotton fabrics are densely structured from extra-long staple fibres and treated with a perfluorinated compound (PFC)-free durable water repellency (DWR) finish on either side for performance and water resistance.
