Demand for ‘slow fashion’ growing, says Ventile
Growing demand for its ‘eco ranges’ demonstrates the clothing sector’s desire to address sustainability issues, according to performance cotton brand Ventile.
Sales from its Eco textile range hit 67% of total sales in 2023, up from 50% in 2022.
The Ventile Eco range comprises of fabrics made either entirely from recycled GRS-certified pre-consumer waste, fabrics that are made from organic cotton, or blended lines that include lyocell and hemp.
Data from the business suggest that appetite for mid-weight cotton fabric, 200-230 g/m2, continues in the textile industry, dominating orders at 75%.
Ventile brand director Daniel Odermatt said: “We are proud to be part of the slow fashion movement that champions sustainable textiles solutions. Over the years, we have curated a range of fabrics that allows designers to make more sustainable textile choices for their collections and the recently published figures show how this has built.”
Last April, Ventile announced a partnership with The Egyptian Biodynamic Association, an organic and regenerative farming association, to support Egyptian farmers in applying biodynamic cotton farming methods and addressing the supply of extra-long-staple organic cotton.
