Lycra 'making progress' on stretch-fibre recycling
US fibre manufacturer The Lycra Company has issued its second annual sustainability report, this time for fiscal year 2022.
“We are proud of the advances we have made in pursuit of our 2030 goals,” reported chief brand and innovation officer, Steve Stewart.
“At the same time, we recognise the challenges in front of our industry are great and we can only meet them by working together with our customers, suppliers and third-party partners.”
Highlights include an update on how 61% of Coolmax-branded products and 86% of the Thermolite range sold over the 12 months contained either pre- or post-consumer recycled content. Already, four out of six Lycra manufacturing sites now have “some recycling capability”.
Acting chief executive, Dean Williams, added: “We also recognise the challenges involved in recycling stretch garments and through our R&D efforts [we] are making progress in finding ways to more easily recycle fabrics with both Lycra and Lycra T400 fibres.
“Finally, we’re developing industrial compostable fibres for certain unique applications. All these efforts provide a strong foundation for the future.”
