Flashspun HDPE powers new camping brand
Minimal Gear is launching its third in-house brand, Cowboy Camping, with industry sales and marketing expert, as well as avid outdoorsman, Whitney La Ruffa. The idea for this venture came to Mr La Ruffa in 2016 when he hiked the Continental Divide Trail. The range features groundsheets, sit pads, as well as various packs and sacks to protect gear and campers. Their unifying feature is that they are all made from high density polyethylene (HDPE) flashspun fabric, a nonwoven chosen for its combination of lightness and robustness.

Nonwoven HDPE is the material used to make Tyvek, a DuPont trademark, among other such materials. It is widely used by do-it-yourself makers in the ultralight backpacking community due to its lightweight, durable and cost-effective qualities, the brand said.

Minimal Gear’s two other brands are Cnoc Outdoors (on the go hydration solutions) and Diorite Gear (trekking and tent poles). The B-Corp certified company was founded in 2016.
