Bio-yarn producer Spinnova has partnered with workwear solutions provider TouchPoint on an all-Finnish project that aims to develop sustainable workwear products.
For a number of years, TouchPoint has been working to make this sector more sustainable. Its efforts have included using responsible materials such as recycled polyester and cellulosic fibres as well as running take-back programmes for used workwear.
It now hopes to explore how it can incorporate Spinnova’s innovative fibre into its products. Spinnova recently entered the pilot phase for this fibre and completed building of an industrial-scale pilot line at the end of 2018.
It has said its focus now is on joint product development with brand partners, of which TouchPoint will be one.
Announcing this new partnership, Janne Poranen, Spinnova’s CEO, said: “TouchPoint is a great example of what the textile industry should do to help commercialise sustainable materials; to get hands-on involved in developing the innovations already before there is an exact roadmap to commercial production. A common value foundation has helped this collaboration take off quickly and open-mindedly.”
