Patagonia taking repair scheme to Europe

07/04/2016
Outdoor brand Patagonia has launched a European drive to encourage customers to extend the life of their clothes through free repairs in an effort to reduce the company’s environmental impact.

The Euro Worn Wear Tour will get underway on April 15, beginning in the UK and Germany before also travelling France, Italy and the Netherlands on a 50-stop mission. Stopping off at locations as diverse as retail outlets and farmers’ markets, the aim is to inspire customers to get their garments repaired free of charge, regardless of brand, rather than purchasing new clothing.

As well as repairing broken zippers, tears and buttons, Patagonia aims to teach people how to carry out their own repairs through collaboration with experts at iFixit in order to avoid the CO2 emissions, waste output and water usage required to produce replacement garments.

Patagonia is looking to build on the success of a similar US tour in 2015 which saw the company visit 21 states across six weeks under the motto of ‘If it’s broke, fix it!’
