First manufacturers certified to Global Traceable Down Standard

Public health organisation NSF Sustainability has certified the first manufacturers to the Global Traceable Down Standard (Global TDS). The standard was launched by NSF in March 2016 after 18 months of development.

South Korea’s Youngone Corporation, Taiwan’s Quang Viet Enterprise (QVE) and China’s Shen Gang Tungsang have all achieved the certification after demonstrating that the down it processes comes from farms that practice “the highest levels of animal welfare” and can be fully traced through its supply chain. NSF carried out on-site audits of the three manufacturers to ensure that the required standards were met.

“These companies have committed to full traceability in handling certified down and ensuring that products labeled Global TDS contain only certified down,” said Jenny Oorbeck, general manager for NSF Sustainability.

All three manufacturers supply to the down outdoor apparel and sporting goods markets. QVE and Youngone Corporation are suppliers to Patagonia, who requires manufacturers to be fully certified to the Global TDS. Shen Gang Tungsang specialises in the design and development of insulated outdoor products, particularly sleeping bags.
