Under Armour looks to accelerate footwear development

The aim of the new facility, which will be known as UA PDX, is to bring footwear design and development under one roof. To this end, it includes a biomechanics lab and a performance training centre where athletes can test new products.
UA PDX will house around 100 staff from Under Armour’s footwear design, development and innovation teams. They will work to develop the next generation of footwear for the basketball, running, training, golf and outdoor categories.
“UA PDX was created to condense and accelerate the footwear and apparel design process by connecting designers and developers with an innovation team and athlete performance analytics in real-time and around the world,” Under Armour has explained.
Under Armour’s vice president for footwear, Peter Ruppe, has said UA PDX is a “considerable leap forwards” in the company’s pursuit of leading performance footwear. He described footwear as “a key driver” of Under Armour’s long-term growth.
