ICAC to undergo major strategic review
24/10/2017
The meeting was opened by Minister Kamalov, chair of the organising committee, who highlighted the developments in Uzbekistan’s cotton industry and welcomed delegates from around the world. He expressed his hope that those in attendance would “see new prospects for cooperation and lay the foundation for mutually-beneficial agreements”.
The first session of the meeting saw speeches from Claudia Fontana Tobiasson, chair of ICAC, and new ICAC executive director, Kai Hughes. They explained that the committee would be undergoing a major strategic review over the coming year in order to make it a stronger, more effective organisation to support member governments.
Delegates also heard of the need for better promotion of cotton to counteract the increasing demand for synthetic fibres. They were encouraged to use social media platforms to inform consumers of the benefits of cotton and to address misinformation about it.
