EOCA reveals latest recipients of conservation grants

16/11/2017
The European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) has announced the five projects that have been selected to receive funding as part of its public conservation funding initiative.

A total of €300,000 will be given to projects that conserve threatened habitats and have a link to outdoor enthusiasts around the world.

This year, EOCA received a record 131 applications for funding. Its general managers and scientific advisors narrowed this down to a 15-project shortlist which was split into three categories – water, mountain and forest. The public were then asked to cast their vote on the EOCA website.

The winners of the public vote were:

•Water – Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) Coastal Environmental Regional Reps, UK.
•Mountain – Conserving South Africa’s Endangered Cranes, Drakensberg.
•Forest – Habitat Restoration and Ecotourism for Chimpanzees, Uganda.

Following the public vote, EOCA members selected two more projects. Their choices were:

•Reducing Plastic at Coastal Community Schools, Guatemala.
•Let’s Take Action for the Bear, Italy.

More information about all of the projects is available in the EOCA website
