TK Chemical launches K-rWEAR, expands K-rPET
Daegu, South Korea-based fibre producer TK Chemical recently unveiled K-rWEAR, its latest innovation in domestically derived recycled yarn.
Whereas the company’s K-rPET product (the final version of which is marketed as Ecolon) takes its name and purpose from recycling post-consumer domestic plastic bottles into polyester yarn, subsequently used by local partners including outdoor brand BlackYak, local media described K-rWEAR as a “high-level” and “eco-friendly” technology that goes one step further.
By recycling used clothing, leftover yarn and fabric waste generated during the textile manufacturing process - hence the project’s name, which loosely means Korean recycled worn garments - TK Chemical is reportedly able to produce a high-quality recycled yarn.
CEO of TK Chemical, Lee Sang-il, commented: “92 million tonnes of old clothes are treated as waste every year around the world. About 15% of these garments are recycled, the rest are incinerated or landfilled. The situation represents an opportunity for us.”
In other recent company news, Ecolon-based, Makers Prime-branded t-shirts have launched via South Korea’s rebranded Kakao Makers platform.
