TK Chemical to grow K-rPET yarn production tenfold
South Korea-based TK Chemical is set to increase its production of K-rPET-derived yarn ten times over this year, local media have reported.
The company recently announced plans to boost its use of domestic recycled raw materials from 145 tonnes in 2020 to between 1,800 to 2,600 tonnes in 2021.
It also said that it would continue to invest in K-rPET beyond this year and foresees an increase in demand for recycled polyester yarn, in line with a greater perceived sense of environmental awareness among the South Korean public.
CEO of TK Chemical, Lee Sang-Il, commented on the news: “We will grow our recycling business into a core industry in the future, as we have gained support from the government.”
Mr Lee’s remarks came just over a week after the country’s Minister of Environment, Han Jeoung-ae, visited TK Chemical’s Gyeongsangbuk-do plant, in order to check on the progress of K-rPET’s production.
Among other developments, TK Chemical is soon due to enter the market with K-rATB, an “antibacterial” yarn, according to reports.
