BlackYak doubles down on K-rPET
Seoul-based outdoors brand BlackYak has expanded its commitment to domestic rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate), also known as K-rPET, local media have reported.
The company recently signed agreements with Seoul’s Eunpyeong District and GS Retail, which runs South Korea’s GS25 convenience store chain, to broaden its feeder base for recycled transparent PET bottles.
This adds to the brand’s existing partnerships with the cities of Gangneung and Samcheok (both in Gangwon Province), plus the Gangbuk and Jongno districts of Seoul.
It is hoped that the supply and demand for transparent domestic PET bottles will be enhanced by these agreements, which will in turn enable the expansion of BlackYak’s K-rPET-derived product lines.
Further, BlackYak intends to collaborate with GS Retail, which has around 15,000 stores, on “eco-friendly” products, which will draw upon the brand’s production capabilities and GS Retail’s wide distribution network.
Chairman of BlackYak, Kang Tae-sun, commented: “In Eunpyeong District and alongside other local governments across the country, BlackYak is participating in the domestic waste PET bottle recycling model in cooperation with local communities, consumers and various companies.
“In the future, the company will play a pivotal role in establishing a nationwide resource circulation system.”
Kang Jun-suk, BlackYak’s managing director, added: “In making recycled products with improved marketability, resulting in actual consumption, resource circulation can become sustainable.
“This collaboration with GS Retail, whose convenience stores are frequently used by consumers, will be an opportunity for the production, distribution and usage of eco-friendly products to penetrate further into our daily lives.”
