Vollebak dreams of life on Mars with most advanced gear yet
UK brand Vollebak has unveiled its most complex and advanced gear yet, designed to “work on Earth, Mars and rockets in between”.
The Mars Jacket and Mars Pants are both built with ballistics-grade nylon, originally designed to protect soldiers from flying debris and shrapnel. The material is durable, tough and tear-resistant, and has a high-tenacity filament-like fibre, making it look utilitarian.
The jacket includes a vomit pocket and vomit bag “in case the body’s vestibular system – which helps you keep your balance on the ground – goes a bit haywire”.
There are also giant side vents on the jacket it can open up like a sleeping bag and an “anti-gravity pocket” – if you’re upside down you open the pocket at the bottom, if you’re upright you open it up from the top.
The pants have a horizontal fly based on fighter pilot gear.
The brand is challenging customers to test the clothing: “Wear them until you destroy them. We’re going to be making and testing gear for Mars right up until the rockets start leaving, so we want to know what works.”
