K2 launches new ‘eco’ line in South Korea

Outdoor brand K2, based in Seoul, has launched Eco Project, a new line made from a combination of Global Recycled Standard-certified materials and what it described as more sustainably minded fibres.

The collection’s fibre portfolio includes partially plant-based Sorona, now part of Chinese-owned Covation Biomaterials, plus Coolmax EcoMade, a 100% recycled fibre made from either textile waste or recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) bottles.

Eco Project encompasses multiple product categories, ranging from t-shirts, jackets and trousers to backpacks and cross-body bags.

The brand singled out the Ola t-shirt as a particular highlight. Made in part using ISCRA-S, a high-elasticity fibre made by Toray Advanced Materials Korea from a combination of Sorona and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), K2 said that the article’s resulting stretchiness makes it especially suitable – and comfortable – for outdoor activities.

Available in white as well as two shades of blue, the top is priced at just over $50 or 65,000 South Korean won. In tribute to K2’s mountain climbing heritage, it also features an embroidered figure of a climber on the chest.
